Faith-based Organizations and NGOs Call for Ceasefire in Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory

As the violence in the Middle East escalates in Israel/Palestine, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ joined a coalition of more than 70 interfaith and nongovernmental organizations in calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The statement, which is led by prominent Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Arab-American groups, condemns all violence against civilians by Hamas and the Israeli military. It urges policymakers to:

• Publicly call for a ceasefire to prevent the further loss of life;
• Prioritize the protection of all civilians, including by urgently securing the entrance of humanitarian aid into Gaza and working to secure the release of hostages; and
• Urge all parties to fully respect international humanitarian law.
