Virginia L. Hileman Meyer
March 12, 1940 – August 13, 2019
Virginia L. (Hileman) Meyer died August 13, 2019, at her Greenfields home in Geneva, Illinois. Born in Indiana March 12, 1940, she moved with her family to Elgin, Illinois as a child, and graduated from Elgin High School in 1958 and Manchester University, North Manchester, Indiana in 1962.
Virginia was commissioned by the United Church Board for World Ministries (UCBWM), a predecessor mission body of what today is Global Ministries, to serve as an educator in Turkey from 1970 until 1973 at the American Academy in Üsküdar, Turkey. After returning to the U.S., Virginia taught in several schools in the United States and then worked in data processing.
Virginia married Matthew Meyer in 1984, and gained a family of Mark, Daniel, (Lori), and Sally (Matthew) Medearis. In addition to the children, she is survived by grandchildren Matthew, Michelle, Michael, Deborah, and Kathryn; and great-grandchildren Lillianna and Billy. Also surviving are sisters Vivian Hileman and Kathleen (Raleigh) Sutton; nephews Larry (Denise) Johnson, and Ron (Isabelle) Johnson, along with their families, Tyler, (Sasha), Ashley, Jessica, Kimberly, Samantha, Kaxton, Dallyce, and Declyn.
Virginia Hileman Meyer was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Hartigan in 2014, and her husband Matthew in August 2018. A celebration of life was held at Greenfields, 0N801 Friendship Way, Geneva, Illinois on Sunday, August 25, 2019.
