Global Ministries mourns the death of Dr. Christopher Deen, who for a number of years worked at Christian Hospital Mungeli. Dr. Deen came to Mungeli in 1946 as an intern after medical school at Miraj. He also took a two-year “MB” course at Vellore to upgrade his degree to an MBBS. Dr. Victor Rambo, long time Disciples missionary in the area, then arranged for him to have a residency in ophthalmology at Wayne State University in Detroit. By 1953, Dr. Deen was back practicing at Mungeli. In Dr. Rambo’s absence, Dr. Deen was the hospital’s lead eye surgeon for more than a decade (roughly 1953-65), performing many thousands of cataract removals and other eye surgeries, both in Mungeli and as well as in the hospital’s outreach clinics conducted in villages across central India.
