Hawaiian Worship in Alexandria, VA
Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) is a life long member of the United Church of Christ. For more than thirty years he has regularly worshipped with the congregation of Hope United Church of Christ in Alexandria, Va. where Rev. Sid Fowler is the interim minister. Today, the Senator was greeted with Hawaiian dancers as he presented the morning sermon on the 190th anniversary of the arrival of Christian missionaries in Hawaii (The American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions now part of UCC’s Wider Church Ministries). Afterwards, Senator Akaka joined the band and sang Hawaiian folk songs.
