House of Hope in Haiti: ‘We Must Act’
Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021, Haiti has seen a rise in gang activity and violence. House of Hope, a Global Ministries partner and Child and Elder Sponsorship location providing vital support to vulnerable children and families, has been severely impacted by the ongoing turmoil in Haiti.

On August 23, 2023, armed gangs looted and burned the administration building of House of Hope, destroying all archives and heritage. Despite this devastating loss, the organization managed to set up a temporary space in September 2024, thanks, in part, to support from Global Ministries. However, the violence from another gang incursion forced them to abandon this space on February 13, 2025. The families of the 98 children under House of Hope’s care have since fled to shelters where their most basic needs are unmet.
Polycarpe Joseph, the director of House of Hope, expressed the profound distress faced by these families: “Our hearts are torn and our spirits tremble in the face of so much suffering, tears, screams, violence, and death. They are deprived of everything. They are like abandoned sheep without a shepherd.”
Despite the challenges, House of Hope remains in contact with the families through a WhatsApp group, and the team of collaborators continues to visit them periodically. Joseph emphasized the urgent need for action:
“These families are a part of God’s people who are in distress. They are the face, the heart, and the body of our Lord. We must act. They are truly in need, living in a situation where hunger, poverty, and all kinds of suffering reign. We must act in the name of this God whom we serve and who loves them.”

Global Ministries invites you to act. Prayers and financial gifts are meaningful forms of accompaniment for House of Hope at this time.
