My Disability is Not an Inability!

My name is Tlhopo Kedise and l have been at the Lephoi Centre for Blind Children for six years. When l came l was this little boy just getting along with life.

My name is Tlhopo Kedise and l have been at the Lephoi Centre for Blind Children for six years. When l came l was this little boy just getting along with life. Over the years, l have been taught. I have such tremendous support and through my own inquisitiveness and tenacity l have learned to play the keyboard, marimba and even cooking.

I would like to talk with you about my cooking skills. In Botswana, before the butterfly becomes an adult it is a crawling caterpillar and most of our people here pick them up. The caterpillars are known as ‘phane’ in our local dialect. After catching them they are dried out under the sun and then prepared for cooking. I am so delighted that even as a partially sighted person l have had the privilege of learning through my mentors, the housemothers how to cook the delicacy ‘phane’ using oil and tomatoes on a gas stove. For me this makes the saying of Paul to the Philippians come true for me, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13.  I won’t stop here l will keep adding to my knowledge.
