El Salvador is located in Central America, bordering the North Pacific Ocean, between Guatemala and Honduras.
On January 13, 2001 El Salvador was surprised by a major earthquake. A month later and after many smaller ones, another earthquake with a similar intensity as the first, hit the country once again. As a result of these disasters, a large number of Salvadoreans lost their homes. The Lutheran Church in El Salvador, along with other churches, has been instrumental in the process of disaster relief and reconstruction which will take several years.
