Meet Youth from China
Ms. Hua Yao is a 17-year-old a high school student at Nanjing Foreign Language School, Nanjing, China and a volunteer for supporting children and youth from HIV/AIDS affected families.
When she was 13, she began to make young friends whose parent(s) died of AIDS. She invited her own classmates to write to those students and encourage them in the face of their difficult situations, build up their confidence and work toward their futures. She also wrote articles to share the situation with a broader audience. Through the children’s stories in her articles, she helped people in the cities to understand the situation of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Hua Yao has been invited to attend the General Assembly of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to share her stories and experiences. Before and after the General Assembly, Ms. Yao will attend the Mid-America Region of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Christian Regional Youth Festival (CRY) at Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Missouri, July 20-24, and the Disciples of Christ in the Upper Midwest CYF at the Christian Conference Center, Newton, IA, Aug. 3-8, 2009. Be sure to engage in these wonderful opportunities for young people to meet with Ms. Yao while she is visiting in the U.S.
