As sponsored by Global Ministries, a medical team of doctors from Peking University (Beijing) have gone twice to Zhecheng county of Henan province, the AIDS epidemic region, for medical services in April and June, 2006. The economic development in this county is very slow, so that the farmer’s life is still very difficult. The total amount of economy of this county is ranked the second from the last in 102 counties of this province. The developmental level of medical serves is also laggard. The economic difficulty resulted in some farmers selling their blood in 90’s in last century and, as a result, some of them became infected with HIV.

The team of doctors covers surgery, internal medicine, emergency, paediatrics, gynaecology, otolaryngology and other medical sciences. The doctors of our medical team have built a substantial collaboration with the local hospital in past years and been carrying on a long-term program aimed at education, prevention and treatment of AIDS in this region. This program also includes training local doctors in the field of diagnoses and treatment of other common diseases, and donating some medicines, medical equipments and supplies, and other life necessities to patients. The program is long-term and scheduled once every two months. Doctors usually stay there 2 days every time. The first day, doctors will see some patients and give lectures on some topic on diseases. There usually are hundreds in the audience, including all clinical doctors in this county. On the second day, team doctors come to the sickroom to exaine patients, who are usually difficult to diagnose, and help local doctors to establish an accurate therapy strategy for some cases. The program has been and will continue to be very helpful for the development of local medical enterprise.
