Global Ministries is saddened to learn of the death of Lois Opal King, 92, of Chicora, Pennsylvania, who passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
Ms. King was born March 2, 1919, in Concord Township, PA, the daughter of the late Elias I. and B. Alvina (Fleming) King. Lois graduated from Maryville College before graduating from Biblical Seminary in New York. She served for 10 years in Angola, West Africa, where she supervised mission schools. After returning to the United States, Lois spent 30 years as a fourth-grade teacher at Summit Elementary School, in Butler, PA. In retirement she lived for a time at the Uplands Retirement Village in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and had been attending the Chicora Alliance Church and the Faith Fellowship Church.
Lois is survived by her brother, John C. King of Chicora; her sister, Ruby Wind of Chicora; and 14 nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Wycliffe E. King, and her sister, Chelcie Moore.
Services were held Monday, August 29, with her nephew, Paul King, officiating.
