With the support of Global Ministries, a medical team from Peking University went to Zhecheng County, Henan Province, China from April 20 to 21, 2007. The medical team consisted of 7 doctors and professors from the department of gynecology, surgery, internal medicine and infection, from the hospital at Peking University. The medical team’s objective was to donate 20 computers to Chengliu primary school in this county, give lectures for local doctors and other medical workers from several hospitals and provide care to patients. The ceremony of donation was held in Chengliu primary school with 15 representatives from the government of Shangqiu city and Zhecheng County, Peking University and all the students and teachers of the primary school. The audience included people from the village and surrounding areas. Leaders of the local government and school acknowledged the activity of the medical team and hoped that the work could be continued in the future.
In the local hospital, two professors gave seminars titled “Prevalence and Prevention of AIDS” and “Prevention and Therapy of Diabetes in the Rural Area.” About 150 medical workers from several hospitals in Zhecheng county attended the seminars. Professors from Peking University and local hospital leaders also met to discuss ways they could collaborate in the future to meet the medical needs of the community. As arranged in the meeting, Peking University Health Library will donate medical books valued 100,000.00 yuan to Zhecheng Hospital this year, which will be a great help since the hospital is lacking in funds to buy enough medical books.
Global Ministries has also supported the Peking University medical team as they traveled to provide medical services to the Tibetan people in Ganzi, Sichuan Province.
