The Programme for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa (PROCMURA), a pan African Christian organisation committed to Christian constructive relations with Muslims for sustainable peace in society and peaceful co-existence between Christians and Muslims towards the holistic-development of the human family and the environment, have conscientiously followed the recent developments in Nigeria where over 200 girls were abducted a few weeks ago.
Boko Haram who claim to be a religious group of the Islamic faith, have told the world that they are responsible for this heinous act which is inhuman, irreligious and indeed ungodly; they have even threatened to sell the girls.
After extensive and intensive consultation with Christian and Muslim religious leaders of goodwill in the African continent, we do hereby call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Goodluck Jonathan, and the Presidents of neigbouring countries and indeed the entire African Continent, as well as the international community, to speed up your declared resolve and commitment, to rescue the girls through whatever means that will secure their release unharmed. Our hearts bleed for the girls, their parents, brothers and sisters, who all live in extreme stress and in limbo of what is, and what the end will be.
As we remain in prayer that in the end, good will overcome evil and the girls will be released unharmed, we will want to reiterate our commitment to remain steadfast in this vocation entrusted to us by God through Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, to ensure that Christians and Muslims of goodwill will continue to work together to promote the ultimate value of religion which is to protect life and promote justice and peace for all.
PROCMURA stands in solidarity with the good people of Nigeria at this time and remain committed to accompany them as they seek solutions to the menace of violence that has bereft parts of the country, and assure them that they may be afflicted in every way but cannot be crushed.
In the spirit of living with differences in Peace and not in Pieces,
Dr. Johnson Mbillah
PROCMURA General Advisor
