First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy – Behle Endowment Fund

The First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy – Behle Endowment Fund was established with Wider Church Ministries in 2009 at the request of First United Church of Christ of Pomeroy, Iowa, as the church’s visible ministry concluded. The Fund is an expression of the high priority of First UCC, Pomeroy on sharing God’s love with all of God’s children. Further, the Fund recognizes the leadership given to the church by Reverend Harold L. Behle, and the Global Ministries mission co-worker service of Reverend and Mrs. Behle’s son, Mark Harold Behle.  Fund distributions generated by the First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy – Behle Endowment Fund support Global Ministries partners in Africa as determined by the Global Ministries Executive for Africa.

Reverend Harold Behle served the First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy, Iowa from 1951 until 1956. Reverend Harold and Mrs. Ruth Behle’s son, Mr. Mark Behle, served for 33 years as a mission co-worker of the United Church of Christ and (eventually also through Global Ministries) the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Africa. Beginning in 1985, Mark Behle served with the United Church of Zambia, and from 1996 until his retirement in 2018 Mr. Behle served with the Lesotho Evangelical Church of Southern Africa in Lesotho.

This Fund provides an opportunity for donors to make contributions to a permanent fund that will provide revenue for projects in Africa in an ongoing way.  The annual distributions of the First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy – Behle Endowment Fund are allocated  to Global Ministries partners in Africa as prioritized by the Global Ministries Africa Executive.

Contributions may be made to the principal of the First United Church of Christ, Pomeroy – Behle Endowment Fund by check written to Wider Church Ministries and directed to:
