March 2016: Through the Eyes of Children
What you have learned and received, and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9
The beauty of life can be seen through the eyes of children all around the world. Just a short walk from the Christian Hospital Mungeli is the Rambo Memorial English Medium School (RMEMS). There the vibrant energy of young people, from nursery to 12th grade, pulses. Each day the students learn to cherish life, respect each other, and embrace the unique learning opportunities that are available to them outside, as well as inside, the walls of their school.
Many avenues that enable learning are utilized at the school. From trips to the hospital laboratory by the 10th grade Biology class studying the components of human blood, to the 16 debaters in 5th through 8th grade, who present their arguments on whether cellular phones should be allowed in school; energetic lessons make learning fun.
The school’s dance team won first place in the Friends, Youth, Welfare and Society Interschool Dance Competition. They were one of 12 schools to earn a coveted spot in the competition. The theme was the shooting in the Army Public School in Pakistan in 2014, in which 132 students were killed by terrorists. It was the first time that a theme dance had ever been performed in the history of the competition. The students chose their theme, choreographed the dance, and selected a melody of songs to coincide with the action and emotions of the story. “As I was dancing, I was thinking about how the students must have felt at that time and how their parents must have felt,” explained 9th grade student Srishti Bagh. “I would like to say to everyone that we should not fight. We are all the same and should live as friends.”
Perhaps it is we who can learn the most by looking at our world through the eyes of children.
