Prayers for Jamaica

Loving God, we lift up to You the people of Jamaica, praying that You may enable us to be a people who will seek to love You wholeheartedly and love our neighbours as we love ourselves. We pray that You will stir the hearts of leaders so that they may lead with wisdom, honesty, and righteousness, seeking to promote the well-being of the people they lead and not simply themselves. Faithful God, we give You thanks for the United Theological College of the West Indies. Continue to bless the work of this institution and give wisdom to the members of the Board as they seek to make policies for the way forward. Guide and empower the lecturers as they contribute to the training and formation of the students who are placed in their care. Provide for the financial needs of the institution so that it can continue to carry out its mission. We lift these requests to you, for we know that you hear and answer prayers. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen.
Mission Moment from Jamaica

The United Theological College of the West Indies is an ecumenical community which was founded in April 1966 from the union of Union Theological College, Calabar College, and St. Peter’s College. Today, the college is owned and operated by six denominations, namely the Jamaica Baptist Union, the United Church in Jamaica and The Cayman Islands, The Diocese of Jamaica and The Cayman Islands, The Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas, The Moravian Church in Jamaica, The Moravian Church Eastern West Indies Province and the Lutheran Church of Guyana. The college aims to prepare men and women for lay and ordained ministry to serve the church in the Caribbean and beyond. We seek to maintain a balance between academic excellence and spiritual sustainability. We offer programmes ranging from short courses to Doctoral Studies. Presently, we have 38 students enrolled in our undergraduate programmes and 24 students in our graduate programmes. We also have 67 students from our neighbouring Catholic seminary enrolled in undergraduate courses. We teach courses in various areas, namely Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages, Historical Studies, Theological and Ethical Studies, Religious and Philosophical Studies and Pastoral Studies. I teach Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages. Last semester, I taught Introduction to New Testament Greek and Foundations of Biblical Hebrew.
