Prayers for Venezuela 

“We celebrate Pentecost every day because we believe that the Holy Spirit comes to our church every day.” Evangelical Pentecostal Union of Venezuela (UEPV). Valencia Letter, 1987.

Merciful God of the poor, we thank you for the virtue of your Holy Spirit, the Consoler, who accompanies us and fills us with courage, who teaches us and reminds us of all things, which drives us amid harsh realities, to bear witness to the risen Christ, and to proclaim, with historical force, peace with justice and hope in solidarity for the suffering world.

  • We pray for Venezuela. Renew us in the strength of your Spirit to continue serving and accompanying our impoverished, afflicted, disoriented, dispersed Venezuelan people.

And so that we can:

  • Stop those who do evil and practice corruption, who kidnap and embezzle property that belongs to everyone.
  • Speak with tongues of fire against conformism, selfishness, apathy, and lack of dreams
  • Create new hearts, engender new humanity, and restore happiness to our impoverished and suffering people.
  • Learn to work for unity amid enriching diversity and differences
  • Save our beloved Venezuelan land from the aggression, the siege, the threat, and the looting it suffers. We can cover it with beautiful and fragrant shoots of productivity and solidarity hope. AMEN

Mission Moment from Venezuela

The missionary stewardship of UEPV has its starting point in the experience of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the one who gives all the inspiration to the prophets. The Holy Spirit has been poured out on the Church, impelling it towards a true prophetic task. The Holy Spirit commits and drives us to collaborate with God in his Mission. The Mission is not ours. It is God’s Mission. God has a redemptive, liberating plan for the entire inhabited world. We collaborate in God’s redemptive and liberating Plan for His saving purpose. In that sense, our Pentecostal preaching and practice have been close to the experience of that first Christian community. UEPV, like our fellow brothers and sisters from the first century, devoted ourselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, the breaking of bread, and the prayers.” (Acts 2:42, NRSV). That experience has clear social implications for how the Gospel is lived and testified worldwide. Our witness has three primary practices:

  1. Pentecostal Houses for Peace/Food Houses in the UEPV. Our motto is: “In each house, a popular community meal for children and the elderly suffering from food emergencies in the Church and community.”

    We humbly and selflessly promote the sharing of food through community family tables. We serve our meals out of family efforts. At the same time, we transform our tables into educational spaces. By sharing the food, we also recover the Kingdom of God’s values, which is necessary for our current situation. As a result of this project, and with the support of Global Ministries, we feed our communities with prayers and reflections about love, justice, solidarity, and mutual cooperation.
  2. The Sanctuaries of Peace and the Community Pots for Peace
    The churches must share at least one monthly “community pot,” sharing food rations with families and people in extreme need to keep alive the hope of solidarity towards the families of the Church with the greatest vulnerability.
  3. The socio-productive Churches of the UEPV, under the motto “All Pentecostal hands to the sowing.”
    From a socio-productive perspective, UEPV oriented a theological and pastoral formation for a new ecclesiology in the UEPV for the socioeconomic development of the Church and families and communities. The Ecological Pastoral course taught at the Venezuelan Center for Theological Studies (CEVET) has made churches in rural and peasant areas dedicate time to planting in the churchyard. In addition, the initiative should include children as protagonists of that sowing, and we are reaching out to family backyards. 

Other programs that reflect UEPV’s stewardship of sharing, serving the tables, and sowing are the following:

  • Pastoral for Health and Wholeness. Integral health promoters and promoters in each Church
  • Wayuu indigenous Pentecostal spirituality
  • Women’s Pastoral. Community of Pentecostal women doing theology
  • Sociotheological formation-Integral formation. A Sociotheological Training School (EFS) in each Church. Theological and secular education formation, providing titles like Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees through joint ventures with Venezuelan universities.
  • Black pastoral and against all discrimination

We share what we receive from the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is, after all, a profound spiritual experience that conducts us to a renewed way of being the Church. Let us live the anointing of the Spirit by sharing our gifts in communion with God and our neighbor. Let us return to the original roots of the Spirit, flowing from our hearts and our souls to our tables, overcoming hunger and misery. Let us speak truth to principalities and powers inspired by a new Pentecost.

ORACIÓN POR VENEZUELA:

Misericordioso Dios de los pobres, te agradecemos por la virtud de tu Espíritu Santo, el Consolador que nos acompaña y nos llena de coraje, que nos enseña y nos recuerda todas las cosas, que nos impulsa en medio de duras realidades, para dar testimonio del cristo resucitado y proclamar con fuerza histórica la paz con justicia y la esperanza solidaria para el mundo que sufre.

  • Oramos por Venezuela. Renuévanos en la fuerza de tu Espíritu, para continuar sirviendo y acompañando a nuestro pueblo venezolano empobrecido, afligido, desorientado, dispersado.

Y para que podamos:

detener a quienes hacen el mal y practican la corrupción, que secuestran y malversan los bienes que son de todos y todas

hablar con lenguas de fuego en contra de los conformismos, los egoísmos, las apatías, las ausencias de sueños

crear nuevos corazones, engendrar una nueva humanidad y restaurar la felicidad de nuestro pueblo empobrecido y sufrido

aprender a trabajar por la unidad en medio de la rica diversidad y las diferencias

salvar a nuestra amada tierra venezolana de la agresión, el asedio, la amenaza y el saqueo que sufre, y podamos cubrirla con hermosos y fragantes brotes de productividad y de esperanza solidaria.

LA MAYORDOMÍA MISIONERA DE LA UEPV TIENE SU PUNTO DE PARTIDA EN LA EXPERIENCIA DEL ESPIRITU SANTO

El Espíritu Santo es quien da toda la inspiración a los profetas. El Espíritu Santo ha sido derramado sobre la Iglesia, impulsándola hacia una verdadera tarea profética. El Espíritu Santo nos compromete y nos impulsa para ser colaboradores y colaboradoras de Dios en su Misión. La Misión no es nuestra, es la Misión de Dios. Dios tiene un plan redentor, liberador, para todo el mundo habitado. En ese Plan redentor y liberador de Dios participamos como colaboradores y colaboradoras en su propósito redentor.  En ese sentido, nuestra predicación y práctica pentecostal han estado cerca de la experiencia de aquella primera comunidad cristiana. La UEPV, como nuestros hermanos y hermanas del primer siglo, nos dedicamos a la enseñanza y la comunión de los apóstoles, al partimiento del pan y a las oraciones”. (Hechos 2:42, NRSV). Esa experiencia tiene claras implicaciones sociales sobre cómo el Evangelio es vivido y testificado en todo el mundo. Nuestro testimonio tiene tres prácticas principales:

  1. Las Casas Pentecostales por la Paz/Casas de Alimentación en la UEPV. Lema: “En cada casa una comida popular comunitaria para niñez y tercera edad que están en emergencia alimentaria en Iglesia y comunidad”

    Compartimos de forma humilde y desprendida los alimentos que conseguimos desde nuestros esfuerzos familiares.  Al mismo tiempo, logramos la recuperación de los valores del Reino de Dios, afirmando aquellos valores del Reino de Dios tan necesarios en nuestra situación actual.  A raíz de este proyecto, y con el apoyo de Ministerios Globales Discípulos/UCC de USA y Canadá, alimentamos a nuestras comunidades con amor, Justicia, solidaridad, y cooperación mutua.
  • Los Santuarios de Paz y las Ollas Comunitarias por la Paz
    Las iglesias deben compartir al menos una ración alimentaria mensualmente con familias y personas que se encuentran en extrema necesidad, con el objetivo de mantener viva la esperanza solidaria hacia las familias de la Iglesia con mayor vulnerabilidad.
  • Las Iglesias socio- productivas de la UEPV, bajo el lema “Todas las manos pentecostales a la siembra”
    La UEPV orientó una formación teológica y pastoral para una nueva eclesiología en la UEPV, de perspectiva socio productiva, para el desarrollo socioeconómico tanto de la iglesia como de las familias y las comunidades. El curso Pastoral Ecológica que se imparte en el CEVET ha logrado que las iglesias que están en zonas rurales y campesinas se comprometan a hacer que sus miembros, incluso la niñez, dediquen un tiempo a la siembra en el patio de la iglesia. Lo mismo en los patios de la casa familiar.

Otros programas que reflejan la corresponsabilidad de compartir, servir las mesas y sembrar de la UEPV son los siguientes:

  • Pastoral de la Salud y la Integralidad. Promotores y promotoras de salud integral en cada Iglesia.
  • Espiritualidad indígena wayuu pentecostal.
  • Pastoral de la Mujer. Comunidad de mujeres pentecostales haciendo teología.
  • Formación socioteológica-Formación integral. Una Escuela de Formación Socioteológica (EFS) en cada Iglesia. Formación en educación teológica y laica, brindando títulos como Licenciatura, Maestría y Doctorado a través de convenios con universidades venezolanas.
  • Pastoral negra y contra toda discriminación.

Compartimos lo que recibimos del Espíritu Santo. Pentecostés es, al fin y al cabo, una profunda experiencia espiritual que nos conduce a un modo renovado de ser Iglesia. Vivamos la unción del Espíritu compartiendo nuestros dones en comunión con Dios y con el prójimo. Volvamos a las raíces originales del Espíritu, que brota de nuestro corazón y de nuestra alma hasta nuestra mesa, venciendo el hambre y la miseria. Hablemos con la verdad a los principados y potestades inspirados en un nuevo Pentecostés.
