Pray for Kenya on Sunday, August 14, 2011

Prayers for Kenya:

God of all life, like the Baobab tree of the African Savannahs you are the provider of shelter, food and water.  We come to you in praise and with heart full of thanksgiving. We depend on your protection like the elephant shielding its calf and an eagle providing food for her eaglet.

It is our prayer that your children will never allow the sin of starvation and hunger to live amongst us. Therefore God we pray for those living in Eastern Africa who is feeling the pains of hunger while others are staving to death because of the famine and drought in Eastern Africa.

Ngai, help us to deliberately live our life as stewards of your resources you have given us, consciously knowing that whatever we do has an effect on others. We pray that no one will go without food because of drought. It is our pray that the heaves will open up and send down rain.

Nyasaye, we come to you as an empty calabash waiting to be filled so that we can go out and serve others. We come to you whose authority is like the thunder roaring across the skies of Africa, give us the authority to confront and call out by name the evils that cause some to have while many go without.

Teach us to pray and live out the true meaning of the prayer that you taught your disciples, … “give us this day our daily bread..”  Holy Sprit, develop in us a conviction that bread is not for just a few but for all, enables us to take responsibility to speak out against the structural issues that kept people in the state of hunger.

This is our Prayer in the matchless name of Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Amina

Ngai is the Kikuyu name for God
Nyasaye is the Luo name for God
Amina is Swahili word for Amen
