Pray for Lesotho on Sunday, April 12, 2015
Lectionary Selection: John 20: 19-31
Prayers for Lesotho:
Gracious God,
We give thanks for the peace that you offer us! May Jesus’ words “Peace be with you!” be words to encourage us in living faithful lives even amidst challenging circumstances, knowing that the peace of Christ within our hearts can sustain and strengthen us for the tasks before us. Help us to be ambassadors of this peace, sharing it with others and working to be visible agents of your love.
We give thanks for the recent peaceful elections and transition of political power here in Lesotho! We give thanks for the efforts of our partners, the Christian Council of Lesotho and the Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa (LECSA), in speaking and praying for a peace-filled nation. We give thanks for our friends and churches that have joined us in prayer for this blessing of peace.
We pray for the LECSA annual Synod meeting that it will be a meaningful time of fellowship, prayer, planning and commitment. As the church comes together later this month to conclude its year-long 50th anniversary celebrations, may the leaders and members be renewed and refreshed in committing themselves to sharing the Good News of love and peace in Christ and to being your witnesses, so that others may also believe in you.
We ask this in Jesus’ name…Amen!
Mission Stewardship Moment from Lesotho:
Global Ministries’ partner church in Lesotho, The Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa (LECSA), has hundreds of primary schools located all over the lowlands and highlands of the country. About fifteen years ago the Lesotho government began introducing free primary school education. This has allowed more children to attend school. However, most schools have very little funding available to purchase the extra things that make school and learning more enjoyable.
Last year three LECSA primary schools were beneficiaries of the Global Ministries “Have a Ball at Primary School” project which helps schools to have some of those “extras.” When the schools were asked what things they needed, each school mentioned different things: one asked for art supplies, another needed sports equipment and cloth for making cultural dance outfits, and the third requested garden tools for growing vegetableThese gifts do make a difference in the lives of young learners in Lesotho and their teachers. Thank you for your support which does indeed help primary school students to “have a ball” at school! Thank you for your support!
