Pray with Ecuador on Sunday, October 21, 2018

Lectionary Selection: Mark 10:35-45

Prayers for Ecuador:

Oh Lord, this life can be tough. You know that. Your Son experienced it. Beggars from Venezuela, jugglers and buskers from Colombia, women without resources to give a good beginning to their children, little children who care for their younger siblings, youth who cannot find jobs, borrowers who cannot pay their debts, dogs too weak to search for food.  

James and John asked to sit on the right and left. Our prayers are filled with wanting: Give me ….  Help my family ….  Make it possible for me to ….

Oh Lord, when will there be justice? If I am to drink the cup and share the fate, what am I to do? I cannot even help the poor animal lying on the side of the road that is only bones and skin. We too want to sit on the right and the left, but why must we drink of the cup? Why can’t You just make it fair?

Amen.

Mission Stewardship Moment from Ecuador:

We cannot make the world right. We can only do a small part, and even in that small part, we must choose what is the most important. I want to paint away all the graffiti and abolish all the trash. I want to live in a beautiful place without homeless dogs. But maybe this is not what is most needed.

FEDICE helps give a better life to those in communities who are willing to learn new skills and to work together to make their communities better. Many things we cannot do with our limited resources, but those we do help report that we make a difference.  Some can send their children to university. Others can pay for medical help when needed. Young children come home singing songs in English. Our work brings hope both now and for the future: Better nutrition, better education, healthier families.

Thank you for caring about Ecuador and FEDICE and those who are the least of these. Your gifts to Global Ministries make a difference, not only to us, but throughout the world.
