Sabeel Wave of Prayer

Sabeel Wave of Prayer

Wave of Prayer: This prayer ministry enables local and international friends of Sabeel to pray over regional concerns on a weekly basis. Sent to Sabeel’s network of supporters, the prayer is used in services around the world and during Sabeel’s Thursday Communion service; as each community in its respective time zone lifts these concerns in prayer at noon every Thursday, this “wave of prayer” washes over the world.

The Israeli Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of the wrongful death case of American activist Rachel Corrie, who was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003 while non-violently protecting a Palestinian home from demolition in Gaza.  Lord, we pray for all conscientious international volunteers who come here to stand against injustices and who risk their lives for the sake of human rights.  Lord in your mercy…

Last week Israeli forces demolished the home of a Palestinian citizen of Israel who lived with her four children in the Israeli city of Lod (formerly Lydda).  God of mercy, we pray for an end to Israel’s unjust practice of demolishing Palestinian homes, whether they are in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, or within the state of Israel. Lord in your mercy…

Fourteen year-old Malak Al-Khatib was recently released from prison a couple of weeks early.  She was sentenced by Israeli military court to two months in prison and was possibly the youngest Palestinian girl to be detained and sentenced by Israel.  Lord, we are thankful she is home with her family, but worry for all Palestinian children who are never safe under Israel’s military occupation.  Lord in your mercy…

Along with the rest of the world, we are shocked about the recent IS beheadings of the 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya who moved there in search of work.  Lord, we pray fervently for an end to all violence that is causing so much suffering, especially recently in North Carolina (USA) and all over the Middle East and Central Africa.  Lord in your mercy…

Lord, we pray for our Sabeel staff and volunteers as they prepare for a busy period of programs, working overtime for six events this week including: a launch in Bethlehem of our book on non-violent resistance in Islam and Christianity, a “quiz night” for youth, a community trip to Tel Arad and Jericho, a young women and youth event, as well as a Lenten visit to an old age home in Jerusalem. Lord in your mercy…

We pray alongside the World Council of Churches for the countries of Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain. Lord in your mercy…
