Special webinar on children in Israeli military detention
In 2017, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ adopted resolutions addressing the rights of children living under Israeli military occupation. The resolutions call upon our members to advocate for the human rights of the children of Palestine, and for the United States government to adhere to U.S. laws concerning human rights violations and the disbursement of military aid and assistance to Israeli armed forces.
Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota’s 4th Congressional district) introduced a bill (House Resolution 4391) in November, 2017. The bill is titled the Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian Children Act and prohibits U.S. tax dollars from supporting human rights violations against Palestinian children during the course of Israeli military detention.
Defense of Children-Palestine and the American Friends Service Committee have developed a campaign called “No Way to Treat A Child,” focusing on this issue, and have announced a special webinar for Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 8:00 pm (Eastern time) to discuss the issue, the bill, and action steps. Please register here to participate in the webinar.
