UEK Synod adopts resolution on Kirchengemeinschaft with the UCC
At the General Synod of the Union of Evangelical Churches (UEK), held in Magdeburg, Germany this November, delegates voted to affirm Kirchengemeinschaft, or “ecclesial communion” with the United Church of Christ. The resolution is available in German and English here. This significant vote was taken by the regional churches which comprise the UEK, many of which have partners with United Church of Christ Conferences. Attending the Synod meetings of the UEK and the EKD were the UCC’s General Minister and President, the Rev. Geoffrey Black; the UCC’s Minister for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations, the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson; and Global Ministries’ Executive for the Middle East and Europe, Dr. Peter Makari.
The Evangelical Churches of Germany (EKD), of which the UEK is a part, has contributed this statement, “A Protestant Understanding of Ecclesial Communion” (i.e. Kirchengemeinschaft). That statement can be read here.
