Welcome Lorna Hernandez, new People to People Program Administrator

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Lorna Hernandez as the new Administrator for the People to People Program.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Lorna Hernandez as the new Administrator for the People to People Program. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Lorna comes as a longtime member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  After serving as an elementary school teacher in Puerto Rico and then living in Florida for ten years, she moved to Indianapolis in 2009 with her husband, Hector, so that they could attend Christian Theological Seminary.  Her previous experience also includes serving Disciple Home Ministries from March 2009 until August 2011.  During that time she was involved in Youth and Young Adult Ministry commissions, Scholarship and Continuing Education, the General Youth Council, planning for the Black Ministers Retreat, and Disciples Men ministries. She also collaborated with the Office of Disciples Women, writing articles for Just Women magazine.  Lorna also was the designer of the Quadrennial 2010 “Awake” logo.

Lorna is a recent graduate of Christian Theological Seminary with a Master in Marriage and Family Therapy.  She feels that much of what she learned in her studies is applicable in her new position as a facilitator of cross-cultural experiences with international partners.  “When you counsel a person or couple, the experience is intimate and personal.  I look forward to seeing how we can live out these same relationships on a larger scale as people who may have many differences in culture and language share and relate together.”  Lorna also noted that “three of my favorite concepts are ‘with-ness’, ‘possibility’, and ‘transformation’.  My hope is that when people meet across cultures, these words can be experienced by all involved.”

Lorna has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education as well as the previously mentioned Master Degree.  Her final thesis addressed the intersection between Collaborative Theory and Liberation Theology.  She has been married to her husband, Hector, who will also graduate from Christian Theological Seminary in June, 2013, for 16 years.  Lorna began her ministry on January 28, 2013.
