Supporting Christian Presence through World Communion Sunday
First Church in Marlborough, Massachusetts
On World Communion Sunday at First Church in Marlborough, Massachusetts, the church decided to highlight global mission. Leading up to World Communion Sunday, the church had been using the resources provided through the Middle East Initiative, such as the Bible studies and the weekly prayer inserts from Global Ministries. On World Communion Sunday, the church decided to take a special offering to support Christian presence in the Middle East region through the Near East School of Theology in Lebanon.
A member of the congregation baked individual Communion loaves for the morning, and there was more than enough for those in the service, and for anyone homebound. Attendees were asked to take loaves with them after the service to share with others. As a result of the additional offering, the church raised nearly $700 for the Near East School of Theology in Lebanon. The morning was a wonderful celebration of World Communion Sunday, Global Ministries, and partners providing Christian presence in the Middle East.
